"Aunt Tootsie" to be featured in GDQ Arts' In/Visible song project

My poem about my beloved Aunt Tootsie, one of my early mentors and inspirations, was selected to be set to music by Felix Jarrar and performed by Imani Mchunu Grosvenor and Joshua Marzan. The In/Visible project is sponsored by GDQ Arts, an exciting and innovative organization founded by the remarkable artists Jenny Cresswell and Kathleen Kelly.

In/Visible explores the many people behind the artist, recognizing mentors and helpers of all kinds. My Aunt Tootsie was a world-traveling adventurer who studied and taught in india and Poland. She sent me postcards from exotic places, brought home interesting art and objects with even more interesting stories behind them, and encouraged me to be bold, explore, and question. I’m excited to hear her song for the first time, and I hope you’ll join me.

The free virtual concert premieres on September 21 at 12 p.m. EST. RSVP here.
